metro station
Project Description: based on the stunning discovery of 2nd century remains of a Praetorian Guard barracks, during the construction of the Amba Aradam station of Rome’s third subway line, THE METRO STATION AT THE CASTRA OF HADRIAN focuses on the development of an architectural design concept for open public spaces surrounding the new metro station. the intervention seeks to liberate the castra from purely casual connection. descent into the station via ramp confronts the user directly with the ruin at eye-level, activating it as something more than an exhibit behind a fence. by separating CIRCULATION of the station and the ruin, emphasis is placed upon the ancient remains as something more than a showpiece.
